How to Redesign Your Website Without Negatively Impacting SEO

Author: Harry Casimir

If you’re like most business owners, you’re always looking for ways to improve your website and grow your business. But you may not want to invest in a complete website redesign if it could hurt your SEO ranking. Here are some tips on how to redesign your website without impacting your SEO.

Plan Website Redesign

When you’re planning your redesign, it’s important to consider how it will impact your SEO strategy. Make sure you have a plan in place for how you’ll handle any changes to your website’s structure, content, URL, etc.

When formulating a plan, make sure to audit your current website and download all the URLs of your website so that you can make sure they are not affected by all the changes.

Use 301 Redirects

If you’re changing any of your website’s URLs, it’s important to set up 301 redirects. This will help ensure that users are directed to the correct page when they visit your site.

If you don’t do it right, the search engine will receive 404 web pages not found. The previous URL will be redirected to the new one via 301 redirects. This is the technical method of informing search engines that a link has been altered.

Index All Pages

If you’re making changes to your website’s structure, it’s important to make sure all of your pages are still being indexed by Google and other search engines.

One way of making sure of this is to do a ‘no index test’. Use Google Search Console to check if your pages are still being indexed.

Update New Sitemap

After you’ve made changes to your website, it’s important to update your sitemap. This will help ensure that all of your pages are indexed by Google and other search engines. Ensure that the new sitemap includes all of the target URLs.

Monitor Website’s Performance

Once your redesign is complete, it’s important to monitor your website’s performance. This includes keeping an eye on your traffic levels, conversion rates, and other key metrics. If you notice any significant changes, it’s important to investigate and determine the cause.
